Az \u00e9p\u00fclet neve ezut\u00e1n elv\u00e1laszthatatlanul \u00f6sszekapcsol\u00f3dott a fest\u0151 p\u00e1ly\u00e1j\u00e1val \u00e9s m\u0171v\u00e9szet\u00e9vel, t\u00f6rt\u00e9nete azonban enn\u00e9l j\u00f3val kor\u00e1bbra ny\u00falik vissza.<\/p>\n

Az eredetileg Esterh\u00e1zy-tulajdonban<\/a>\u00a0lev\u0151 h\u00e1zik\u00f3 val\u00f3sz\u00edn\u0171leg m\u00e9g a 18. sz\u00e1zadban \u00e9p\u00fclt, igazi vill\u00e1v\u00e1 Gundy Gy\u00f6rgy<\/a>, a pesti n\u00e9met sz\u00ednh\u00e1z volt igazgat\u00f3ja tette a kiegyez\u00e9s<\/a>\u00a0ut\u00e1n. A r\u00e9gi kaposv\u00e1ri iparoscsal\u00e1db\u00f3l sz\u00e1rmaz\u00f3 Gundy legal\u00e1bb olyan \u00e9rdekes m\u0171v\u00e9szp\u00e1ly\u00e1t futott be, mint a villa k\u00e9s\u0151bbi tulajdonosa, Rippl-R\u00f3nai. Gundy Gy\u00f6rgy apja borb\u00e9lymester volt, \u0151 maga tan\u00edt\u00f3nak k\u00e9sz\u00fclt, s mivel ez a foglalkoz\u00e1s a k\u00e1ntors\u00e1ggal j\u00e1rt egy\u00fctt akkoriban, hamarosan kider\u00fclt, milyen sz\u00e9p a hangja. Innen m\u00e1r egyenes \u00fat vezetett a sz\u00edn\u00e9szi-\u00e9nekesi p\u00e1ly\u00e1ra. Gundy megtanult n\u00e9met\u00fcl, a magyar f\u0151v\u00e1roson k\u00edv\u00fcl Boroszl\u00f3ban is megfordult, megn\u0151s\u00fclt, tehet\u0151s emberr\u00e9 v\u00e1lt. A szerencse kereke azonban fordult egyet: sz\u00ednh\u00e1za le\u00e9gett, feles\u00e9ge meghalt, \u0151 pedig felhagyott a sz\u00edn\u00e9szettel, s a honv\u00e1gy hazahozta Kaposv\u00e1rra.<\/p>\n

A hajdani opera\u00e9nekes f\u00f6ldet vett a R\u00f3ma-hegyen, s 1868-ban emeletess\u00e9 alak\u00edttatta az ott tal\u00e1lt f\u00f6ldszintes kis v\u00e1lyogh\u00e1zat, amelyet \u0151 nevezett el R\u00f3ma vill\u00e1nak. Tetej\u00e9re b\u00e1dogb\u00f3l k\u00e9sz\u00fclt harangtornyot emeltetett, benne d\u00e9lid\u0151ben eb\u00e9dre sz\u00f3l\u00edt\u00f3 haranggal. A nyugalmas vid\u00e9ki \u00e9letet azonban t\u00fcd\u0151baja miatt nem sok\u00e1ig \u00e9lvezhette Gundy Gy\u00f6rgy, aki hasztalan gy\u00f3gykezeltette mag\u00e1t Eur\u00f3pa-szerte. Viszont betegs\u00e9g\u00e9ben sem feledkezett meg f\u00f6ldijeir\u0151l: vagyon\u00e1nak egy r\u00e9sz\u00e9t, \u00edgy a vill\u00e1t is, a rokons\u00e1g\u00e1ra hagyta, a R\u00f3ma-hegyen fekv\u0151 birtok\u00e1b\u00f3l negyven\u00f6t holdat pedig j\u00f3t\u00e9kony c\u00e9lra sz\u00e1nt. A j\u00f6vedelemb\u0151l eleinte \u00e9venk\u00e9nt n\u00e9gy k\u00f6z\u00e9piskol\u00e1s kapott \u00f6szt\u00f6nd\u00edjat, sz\u00e1muk azonban k\u00e9s\u0151bb megt\u00f6bbsz\u00f6r\u00f6z\u0151d\u00f6tt, mivel a v\u00e1ros j\u00f3 \u00e1ron tudta eladni az id\u0151k\u00f6zben parcell\u00e1zott birtokot. \u201eA kaposv\u00e1ri gimn\u00e1zium<\/a>\u00a0ifj\u00fas\u00e1ga \u00f6r\u00f6k h\u00e1l\u00e1val tartozik Gundy Gy\u00f6rgynek, akinek nagyszer\u0171 adom\u00e1nya 18 ifj\u00fanak k\u00f6nny\u00edti meg, hogy mag\u00e1t a tudom\u00e1ny fegyvereivel ell\u00e1ssa, a haz\u00e1nak m\u0171velt polg\u00e1r\u00e1v\u00e1 v\u00e1lj\u00e9k\u201d<\/em> \u2013 eml\u00e9kezik meg r\u00f3la (a 244. oldalon) az iskola 1913-ban kiadott eml\u00e9kk\u00f6nyve.<\/p>\n
