A forradalom kit\u00f6r\u00e9sekor a Marcali j\u00e1r\u00e1s szolgab\u00edr\u00e1ja volt; ezt a tiszts\u00e9g\u00e9t 1848 december\u00e9ig t\u00f6lt\u00f6tte be. A <a href=\"\/varostortenet\/b-041\">forradalom h\u00edre<\/a>\u00a0rendk\u00edv\u00fcli hat\u00e1st gyakorolt a gyenge fizikum\u00fa, de er\u0151s akarat\u00fa, a politik\u00e1ra fog\u00e9kony, lobban\u00e9kony term\u00e9szet\u0171 fiatalemberre. B\u00e1tyj\u00e1val, Antallal egy\u00fctt hamarosan tervet dolgozott ki a D\u00e9l-Dun\u00e1nt\u00fal felszabad\u00edt\u00e1s\u00e1ra, amelyet <a href=\"\/varostortenet\/b-062\">Kossuth Lajossal<\/a>, az Orsz\u00e1gos Honv\u00e9delmi Bizottm\u00e1ny eln\u00f6k\u00e9vel is ismertetett. 1849. m\u00e1rcius 19-\u00e9n Kossuth a cibakh\u00e1zi t\u00e1borban megb\u00edz\u00f3levelet adott Noszlopy G\u00e1sp\u00e1rnak, hogy az a magyar korm\u00e1ny nev\u00e9ben felszabad\u00edt\u00f3 harcot kezdjen Somogy megy\u00e9ben. Kossuth egy\u00e9bk\u00e9nt kock\u00e1zatosnak tartotta az elk\u00e9pzel\u00e9st, legal\u00e1bbis abban a form\u00e1ban, ahogy a Noszlopy testv\u00e9rek el\u00e9be terjesztett\u00e9k, m\u00e9gis <a href=\"\/varostortenet\/b-047\">kinevezte G\u00e1sp\u00e1rt a megye korm\u00e1nybiztos\u00e1v\u00e1<\/a>. A nemzet\u0151r \u0151rnaggy\u00e1 is el\u0151l\u00e9pett Noszlopy azonban csak korl\u00e1tozott hat\u00e1sk\u00f6rt kapott, s katonailag Perczel M\u00f3r t\u00e1bornoknak rendelt\u00e9k al\u00e1.<\/p>\n<p class=\"kv-page-content-paragraph\">Noszlopy G\u00e1sp\u00e1r teh\u00e1t korm\u00e1nybiztosi kinevez\u00e9ssel a zseb\u00e9ben \u00e9s szabads\u00e1gharcos elsz\u00e1nts\u00e1ggal a sz\u00edv\u00e9ben fordult vissza Somogyorsz\u00e1g fel\u00e9. Egyre t\u00f6bben csatlakoztak hozz\u00e1. \u00c1prilis 18-\u00e1n csup\u00e1n harminc\u00f6t t\u00e1rs\u00e1val kelt \u00e1t a Dun\u00e1nt\u00falra, \u00e1prilis v\u00e9g\u00e9n viszont m\u00e1r tizen\u00f6tezer n\u00e9pfelkel\u0151vel z\u00e1rta k\u00f6r\u00fcl Kaposv\u00e1rt. A magyar csapatok k\u00f6zeledt\u00e9re a k\u00e9t sz\u00e1zad cs\u00e1sz\u00e1ri katona \u00e9s az udvarh\u0171 hivatalnokok sietve elhagyt\u00e1k a telep\u00fcl\u00e9st.
