(A Helytart\u00f3tan\u00e1cs csup\u00e1n 1829 december\u00e9ben hagyta v\u00e9glegesen j\u00f3v\u00e1 a kaposv\u00e1ri megyeh\u00e1za \u00e9p\u00edt\u00e9s\u00e9t.) \u00dagy kalkul\u00e1ltak, hogy az \u00e9p\u00edtkez\u00e9shez h\u00e1rommilli\u00f3-h\u00e1romsz\u00e1zezer t\u00e9gla sz\u00fcks\u00e9ges, amelynek egy r\u00e9sz\u00e9t a r\u00e9gi \u00e9p\u00fclet bont\u00e1s\u00e1b\u00f3l nyert\u00e9k, de a rabok is t\u00f6bb sz\u00e1zezer darab elk\u00e9sz\u00edt\u00e9s\u00e9vel vettek r\u00e9szt a k\u00f6z\u00f6s er\u0151fesz\u00edt\u00e9sben.<\/p>\n

A megyeh\u00e1za 1831 nyar\u00e1n kapta meg vil\u00e1gosz\u00f6ld k\u00fcls\u0151 fest\u00e9s\u00e9t, ekkorra a tet\u0151szerkezet is elk\u00e9sz\u00fclt, de csak 1832. m\u00e1jus 1-j\u00e9n, M\u00e9rey S\u00e1ndor f\u0151isp\u00e1n beiktat\u00e1s\u00e1nak napj\u00e1n avatt\u00e1k fel az \u00e9p\u00fcletet. A magyar klasszicista \u00e9p\u00edt\u00e9szet kiemelked\u0151 alkot\u00e1s\u00e1t T\u00f6r\u00f6k Ferenc<\/a>\u00a0f\u00f6ldm\u00e9r\u0151 tervezte, s nagyr\u00e9szt kaposv\u00e1ri iparosok dolgoztak rajta. A monument\u00e1lis, h\u00e1romszintes v\u00e1rmegyeh\u00e1za homlokzat\u00e1n a megye c\u00edmer\u00e9t is elhelyezt\u00e9k (Somogy a magyar v\u00e1rmegy\u00e9k sor\u00e1ban els\u0151k\u00e9nt, 1498. janu\u00e1r 6-\u00e1n kapott c\u00edmeres levelet), alatta pedig az \u00e9p\u00fclet rendeltet\u00e9s\u00e9t t\u00f6m\u00f6ren \u00f6sszefoglal\u00f3 felirat olvashat\u00f3: \u201eA k\u00f6zj\u00f3nak\u201d.<\/p>\n

A megyeh\u00e1za ma is tiszteletet parancsol\u00f3, meghat\u00e1roz\u00f3 eleme a v\u00e1rosk\u00e9pnek, de a 19. sz\u00e1zadban \u2013 hatalmas, z\u00e1rt t\u00f6meg\u00e9vel \u2013 szinte uralkodott az alapvet\u0151en f\u00f6ldszintes h\u00e1zakb\u00f3l \u00e1ll\u00f3 telep\u00fcl\u00e9sen.
